Timberlake Men's Golf Association started in 2009. We are a group of about 60 senior men who play at the Legends courses in Myrtle Beach every Monday throughout the year. We play a modified stableford format and welcome players of all levels. Players are flighted according to the number of points they make on average to make for good competition. Our goal is to provide a format for friendly and fair competition and to promote good fellowship with one another.
Myrtle Beach, SC 29588, us
Bogie = 1 pt. Par = 3 pts. Birdie= 5 pts. Eagle = 8 pts. Double Eagle = 12 pts.
We play the senior tees and according to the USGA published rules of golf with the following exceptions:
1. You may clean and place the ball when it is in your own fairway within one club length no nearer the hole from its position in the fairway. "Fairway" also includes closely mowed area's around the green of the hole you are playing as well as all ball drop areas. {If you are in the fairway you may not place your ball in the rough even if it is within one club length.} All other balls must be played as they lie, if a ball is moved for identification it must be placed back in its original lie before the next shot is played.
2. On "cart path only" days you may lift/clean/place your ball anywhere on the course except in hazards or bunkers (including waste bunkers). Again within one club length and no nearer to the hole. This applies only when the whole golf course is "cart path only". If we start a round "cart path only" we will play the whole round as if it is cart path only even if the restriction is lifted during the course of play. This applies unless we are told on the first tee that cart path only is in effect until a certain time or through a certain number of holes. In this case we will revert back to normal play at that time.
Step 1: if possible place ball in bunker no nearer the hole - no penalty
Step 2: if step 1 not possible, place ball in bunker anywhere it is playable keeping the distant from the pin as close as possible - no penalty
Step 3: if there is no place in the bunker that is not in water, drop behind bunker keeping the spot in the bunker in line with the pin - 1 stroke penalty; or replay the shot from where the ball previously lay - 1 stroke penalty.
(Note: you obviously have the right to play the ball out of the water from the original lie)
If you and your playing partners agree that your ball is in an unusual ground condition you may take relief as you would from ground under repair: nearest point of relief, no nearer the hole (example: in a tire track). If your ball is in an obvious footprint in an unraked bunker you may rake the sand smooth and place the ball in the exact location - no penalty (you must consult with others in your group before proceeding).
Out of Bounds: Ball may be replayed from the original spot - provisional is allowed/encouraged if in doubt as to whether the ball is OB - 1 stroke penalty. Option #2 is to drop the ball within 2 club lengths in the fairway nearest the point where the ball crossed the O.B. line - 2 stroke penalty.
Lost Ball: If a ball is lost outside of a penalty area a new ball may be replayed from the same spot the lost ball was played from - if you suspect that your ball may be lost you may play a provisional ball immediately - 1 stroke penalty. Option #2 is to drop a ball within 2 club lengths in the fairway nearest the point where the ball was lost but no nearer to the hole - 2 stroke penalty.
Putting out: All putts for points must be holed out. Once a player has gone past bogie he may pick up or play the hole out. However, to speed up play no one should take more strokes than their maximum allowed under rules of Equitable Stroke Control (ESC).
1. If we get rained out before everyone completes 9 holes:
2. If everyone has completed at least 9 holes but the majority of players less than 14 holes:
3. If the majority of players have completed 14 holes of play:
{this also applies if everyone in a flight has completed 14 holes}
Individual points needed for a player are calculated by taking an average of the points made during the last six rounds of play.
New Players: A new player must play 3 weeks to establish a basis for his points needed. During this 3 week period he will only be eligible to win the closest to the pin competition. On his fourth week he becomes eligible just like any established player. His points needed will be the average of his points make during his first 3 weeks (adjusted according to the 80% minimum). For weeks four through six his points will be the average of all previous weeks again adjusted for the 80% rule.
(The minimum number of points required for any established player will be 6, regardless of avg.)
Anti-Sandbagging Rule (aka, 80% rule):
The points entered for the calculation of the next weeks points will either be the actual points made or 80% of the points required, whichever is more. To put it another way the minimal points allowed will be 80% of the points required. (example: A player needs to make 30 points and only makes 20 - the number entered into the calculation for the next weeks points will be 24 instead of 20 (.8 X 30).
Flights
Players will be flighted according to the following procedure: there will be two flights of generally equal size designated "A" and "B" (this is in addition to the "R" flight for the red tee players) . The phrase "generally equal size" means that the flights can be adjusted so that all players needing the same number of points will be in the same flight.
